I have a life-long passion for building and studying various forms of shelters made from natural materials and grew up in a community that celebrated original throught, design, music and art. Most everyone I knew was either building a house, thinking about off the grid housing & land, but also - with their own hands.
Along with cordwood construction, various masonry projects etc,
One creation that remains as mysterious and beautiful as ever, the native american tipi.

Green Home Building Recycle Building and living in Tipis for years prompted me to construct a small cordwood cabin in '84 and consider it to be one of the most enjoyable, fullfilling projects. No running water, hand mixing cement, laying course after course of wood and stone - while swatting clouds of mosquitos. Every mason will tell you that working with shapes designed by nature is unforgiving, and a totally rewarding experience. Building something from your imagination and/or doing restoration is very inspiring and makes you want to do more.
