F or those visiting for the first time,
I have a life-long passion for building and studying various forms of shelters made from natural materials and grew up in a community that celebrated independent thought, design, music and art. Most everyone I knew was either building a house, thinking about off the grid housing & land, but also - with their own hands.
I'm So happy that these techinques are going from grass roots, to mainstream building, and it's about time.

I've also totally infected my husband Jeff in alternative energy and hand building techniques, and we're about to re-hab a wonderful turn of the century home into an eco-friendly work of art.
Along with cordwood construction, various masonry projects etc,
one creation that remains as mysterious and beautiful as ever, the native american tepee.

Recycle  

Building and living in Tipis for years prompted me to construct a small cordwood cabin in '84 and consider it to be one of the most enjoyable, fullfilling projects. 
No running water, hand mixing cement, laying course after course of wood and stone - while swatting clouds of mosquitos.
Every mason will tell you that working with shapes designed by nature is unforgiving, and a totally rewarding experience.

Jeff and I bought an 85 year old Lake Superior Stonehouse
in 2000 and continue a full restorations
